This conference was organised to take stock of the results of the three-month consultation on the future of the common agricultural policy (CAP) launched by DG AGRI on 2nd February 2017. The conference focused very much on the pillar 1 instruments of the CAP and the perspective of farmers, rural development being mainly tackled form the environmental perspective with a strong presence of the environmental NGOs.
The European Countryside Movement made a statement on the request for a rural agenda.
The results of both the consultation and the on-the-ground analysis will feed into a Communication on modernising and simplifying the CAP to be published by the Commission later in 2017 which will assess the different options for possible policy developments.
Support for the LEADER approach as an integral part of the future rural policy was asked for the rapporteur of the Committee of the Regions, Mr Guillaume Croos.
