Event Details

Rural territories offer a wide array of assets and resources for recreation. Agriculture and Tourism can walk hand in hand and open paths to an holistic approach that includes hospitality, gastronomy, culture, environment, active leisure,…

The conference will address three topics:

  • Challenges for rural areas: digitization, demography, accessibility
  • Opportunities for rural areas through tourism: landscape, authenticity, nature, new markets for local products;
  • Ways forward: Smart territories, new CAP, local and cross-sectorial cooperation.

Each will be discussed in a moderated panel, combined with best-practice cases from Europe and Italy. During the plenary session there will be simultaneous interpretation to and from French.

On this occasion, ELARD, represented by a member of its Council, Kirsten Birke Lund, was invited to take part in the panel dedicated do ‘Smart territories, new CAP, local and cross-sectorial cooperation’.

Following the panels, there will a high-level roundtable with representatives from the italian national government, european farmers, rural development and tourism organisations.

The second edition of the conference “Sustainable Tourism for Rural Development – STRD2019” will focus on the Planning Period 2021-2027 and the

implementation of the new CAP.
