In the afternoon of 23rd November, ELARD joined the stakeholder Consultation on the CoR opinion on Targets and tools for a smart rural Europe together with DG AGRI and DG REGIO.
We talked about how to defragmentize the different development-tools that are now being put in place from different units but also about the LTVRA, that it would be important to set common targets, but it will be very difficult our partners at the commission believe.
Furthermore the rural observatory was on the agenda, which will have a system of indicators in place in mid 2023 for the different objectives of the pact and a first report is meant to be in place in 2024.
ELARD pointed out the need to have geographical units that can be compared all over EU, right now the northern countries have too large smallest units in the EUROSTAT statistic. Maybe functional rural areas that commission is working on will be one solution. This units have either 50 000 inhabitants or are within a radius of one hr drive.
