RENOVERTY shares its final results – Supporting energy transitions in rural areas
As the RENOVERTY project comes to an end, a new set of resources and materials is now available for those interested in sustainable energy solutions in rural Europe. Over the past three years, the project has explored how local communities can address energy poverty and promote building renovation that benefits both residents and the environment.
Through collaboration with Local Action Groups (LAGs) and rural stakeholders across Europe, RENOVERTY has developed the Rural Energy Efficiency Roadmaps (REERs), practical tools designed to help communities plan and implement sustainable energy initiatives.
“RENOVERTY has shown the importance of local involvement in tackling energy poverty,” says Marie, ELARD Knowledge Hub. “By working directly with communities, the project has helped translate policy goals into concrete local actions.”
Sharing knowledge from across Europe
To conclude its work, RENOVERTY partners have made available a series of materials summarising the project’s main findings, lessons learned, and examples of good practice. These resources show how rural communities across Europe are contributing to energy transition efforts in different ways.
The special attention deservs the video series “Local Action Groups in Focus” presenting stories from five EU countries, where LAGs involved in pilot areas activities describe how they have worked with energy efficiency and sustainable renovation, what were the challenges and main take aways.
Practical tools for rural communities
The fact sheets on Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs) provide clear explanations of different energy-saving approaches, available in English and pilot areas national languages.
The Q-Split Report explores one of the main challenges to renovation, the “split incentive” between property owners and tenants, and suggests possible solutions to overcome it.
A set of resources for households, including a leaflet and short videos, offers step-by-step guidance on the renovation process, from identifying energy needs to applying for financial support.
Policy recommendations for rural energy planning
The final policy brief on the Rural Energy Efficiency Roadmaps (REERs) includes recommendations for policymakers and local authorities on how to make energy transitions more inclusive, fair, and community-driven.
“These materials are meant to be practical resources for future work,” says Beata, ELARD Knowledge Hub. “They offer useful insights for both rural communities and decision-makers aiming to strengthen fair and inclusive energy systems.”
Continuing the work towards fair energy transitions
RENOVERTY has highlighted the value of community involvement, local cooperation, and knowledge sharing in achieving Europe’s energy and climate objectives. The project’s results aim to support continued progress and inspire further initiatives in rural areas.
All reports, videos, factsheets, and policy documents are available on the official RENOVERTY website.
Behind every local action, there are people who make change happen
We also want to take the opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to all Local Action Groups that supported RENOVERTY project with their dedication, creativity, and deep connection to their communities.
By engaging local stakeholders, reaching out to households, co-creating Rural Energy Efficiency Roadmaps, and spreading the word about the benefits of renovation, these LAGs have shown what the LEADER approach truly means – people first, then technology.
Seven countries, twelve LAGs, one shared goal: empowering rural communities to lead the energy transition.
Your enthusiasm and commitment have turned ideas into local action, and local action into lasting impact. Thank you for being the bridge between innovation and real lives in rural Europe.
