Over 20 representatives of the EU-supported Georgian Association of Local Action Groups (GALAG) gathered on 14-16 December in Tbilisi to participate in a workshop organized by ELARD.
After a first training module for GALAG held on 12-14 July in Batumi, as a part of the ongoing EU-funded European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) project “Strengthening Rural Development Models in Georgia”, the aim of this workshop was to:
- share with Georgian LAGs european experience and knowledge in rural development,
- assist the elaboration of internal and external communication plans,
- help in mapping main partners to build stronger platforms for advocacy and fundraising and
- advise on the formation of thematic working groups and on the distribution of responsibilities among GALAG members.
During the workshop, the GALAG communication plan was developed and two thematic groups for advocacy, lobbying and fundraising were created.
Almost all the workshop attendees stressed ELARD’s tangible input for the capacity building of the GALAG as a key factor for the future development of the organization. “I have never attended such an interesting workshop, which gave me the great insights how to move forward for GALAG’s success”, said GALAG’s Chairperson Maka Gongadze at the end of the workshop.
The workshop was organized in the framework of ENPARD, which has been implemented in Georgia since 2013. The programme intends to reinvigorate the agriculture and the rural sector in the country with a thorough cooperation of government, civil society, and rural community.
